Cultivating ecosystems, not just gardens

I'm Yael, an architect turned landscape designer exploring how ecology can reshape the way we design landscapes and experience nature.

My career began in architecture, moved through interiors, and gradually found its way into the landscape. With each step, I became less interested in controlling nature and more interested in understanding it. Gardens taught me that beauty isn't static. A garden in its first year is not the same garden five years later, and that evolution is not something to resist, but something to cultivate.

That curiosity eventually led me underground.

I began studying living soil and fungal ecology, training in mycomaterials at the Mycelia Academy in Ghent and learning from a global community of mycologists. What began as research quickly became practice: introducing fungal networks into gardens to improve soil structure, strengthen root systems, and create landscapes that become healthier and more resilient with time.

That practice became Mycoscapes—and the beginning of mycoscaping.

Today, Mycoscapes brings together landscape design, fungal ecology, education, and public experience to explore new relationships between people and the living world.
